If your life was full of nothing but failure, being blindsided, rail-roaded, hurt, stepped on, stolen from, cheated on, bullied, neglected, abused, assaulted and abandoned, wouldn’t you?If you couldn’t get up without falling backwards, and every step you took forward meant falling ten steps back, wouldn’t you?The reality is a person can only take so …
If your life was full of nothing but failure, being blindsided, rail-roaded, hurt, stepped on, stolen from, cheated on, bullied, neglected, abused, assaulted and abandoned, wouldn’t you?
If you couldn’t get up without falling backwards, and every step you took forward meant falling ten steps back, wouldn’t you?
The reality is a person can only take so much before suffering feels a lot better than trying, and losing again and again, and again.
We can become addicted to suffering when everything we have ever worked for continuously is stolen and of or continuously fails.
Imagine being so terrified of happiness because it only reminds you of the loss of happiness.
But this post isn’t about advocating for the choice to suffer, but rather its intention is to bring awareness to one’s state of being and recognise the signs as we understand how devastating life could have been.
However, suffering is a choice as is everything else in this reality. We do not necessarily need to like or appreciate all of our choices but we have nevertheless chosen them otherwise they would not be.
The question is, how would things look and feel like if we stop making the choice that we think is what we least deserve?
Perception creates our experience in any given moment. Perception is strongly influenced by our beliefs about reality. A belief is an aspect of reality that we assess to be true. There are countless beliefs in our awareness, many of which we are unaware of.
One prime example is the belief in good and bad. This belief is held by many individuals. It appears to be an absolute indisputable fact. In actuality it is not. Take for example a toothache. We may not like the experience of physical pain but quite often the experience is exacerbated by deeming it to be bad. This is the onset of suffering.
If you observe nature closely you will notice that animals do not experience suffering even though they may be in pain. This is because unlike humans, creatures do not have beliefs and therefore accept their experience in the moment.
Suffering can be diminished or even entirely eradicated, but this requires an acute awareness of what we believe to be true in the moment. It is definitely doable and requires some experimentation and curiosity.
Next time you come to making a decision, why not start asking “what is good for me?” instead of what is right.
Start taking back control and do good for yourself. Start believing that you deserve all the beautiful things in this world and that life can be easy for you.
Choices make the entire difference.
